GOING VEGAN? ‘Micro-boost’ your new diet with us.
For whatever reason you are altering your lifestyle, be it a cruelty free, more sustainable or healthier life the biggest change you will be making will be of a daily concern – Eating.
The greatest shift in lifestyle will be for those who are coming from a meat-eating past, primarily with the concern: “where will I get my protein?” But once you have figured out that vegan protein is easy to find and/or have read any of the countless articles on it, you might naturally start to pay a little more attention to the finer details of your diet, as was the way with me. Even if you have practice with a pescatarian or vegetarian diet there will be somethings that aren’t quite the same.
Iron, Calcium, Zinc, Omega-3 and B12 are all on the shortlist of things the vegan diet can lack. But that’s probably because we relied too heavily on meat and dairy to provide us with these essential nutrients. Having a well-varied vegan diet isn’t much harder than before – it’s simply more… varied. And with that comes something I have been very grateful for – discovery!
Having to look around a little for iron and Omega-3 brought me to chia and flax, things that are fast becoming household names. It were these things that acted like a gateway drug into the world of micro-nutrient boosting foods. Hemp seeds, goji berries, cacao nibs, dried mulberries, pumpkin seeds and more all found themselves being stuffed into my cupboards at home. So if you had any concerns about your dietary needs not being met then don’t worry as countless others have been through it and found a very comfortable place to live in where their diets have maintained high nutrient intakes whilst becoming increasingly varied.
For most of us some preparation and cooking will precede the joyous occasion of eating and for some of us it can be a little bit stressful. It becomes a lot more stressful if you are concerned about ensuring your body is being fed a highly nutritious diet. As we as a species grow ever older it is becoming increasingly important to ensure that we treat our physical bodies with greater respect throughout the entirety of our lifetime. Yet for something that happens multiple times in your day it can still be seen as a daunting task to make sure you are at your very best, and for some of you it isn’t too difficult but it can always be simpler. It’s time to micro-boost your meals.
With a sprinkling of chia or flax over a chili, curry or stir-fry you are contributing 10% of your daily calcium, 6% of your protein and iron and more than enough Omega-3 for the day. By introducing these new foods to my meals I have been comforted by the knowledge that they are being healthily enhanced and topping off whatever nutrient needs I may have.
I created Go! Vegan Box because it was too much of an expensive challenge each month to shop around and ensure I was getting all the nutrients that are less common in my every day foods that make up the majority of my diet. The Go! Vegan Box ensures that each month you have a plentiful supply of interesting organic super-foods that you can freely add to your regular meals to boost your nutrient intake with minimal effort. We strive to ensure that it comes at no greater price than you would have to spend on buying those 1kg bags of chia and cacao that consume all of your cupboard space. Help us help you, and spread the word.
Love & Peace,
